If you have a question that we haven't answered here in our FAQ, we'd love to hear from you. Use the Contact Form to get in touch with us.
ColumbusLocalMusic.com is for music lovers who love to listen and/or contribute. We want to turn music lovers into local music lovers.
You may love music, but you obviously don’t enjoy all types of music. There are thousands of bands in the Columbus music scene, and it’s difficult to sift through the ones you have no interest in to find those that really appeal to you. As a result, the most efficient way of finding new music was simply to rely on the recommendations of your friends. We hope to change that…sort of.
In short, we are your local music discovery engine. After you tell us what your favorite musical genres and bands are, we can then use that information to make suggestions to you from our catalog of Columbus artists and bands.
After signing up for the site you’ll have the ability to "tag" an artist. Each person can tag any band they like, which will in turn help others discover their music.
For instance, if you listen to a local band and you think that fans of Bob Dylan and Wilco would like this band, you would click on the "tag this band" button and enter "Bob Dylan" and "Wilco" into the text boxes. From then on that band will be associated with those two artists. We have an algorithm that processes those tags and uses the information to determine which bands fit your musical tastes most accurately.
It's all highly technical, but the long and the short of it is that the more our users tag, the better our suggestions get.
ColumbusLocalMusic.com was started by a handful of Columbus musicians who deeply believe in the talent this city’s music scene has to offer. The larger music venues in town routinely sell out for national touring acts. That fact leads us to the conclusion that the masses do indeed love and enjoy music nearly as much as we do and they are willing to support it. If the public loves music, and Columbus has such a great talent pool, then why is it so difficult for local bands to find new fans and pack out their shows? We believe the problem revolves around awareness, and we hope ColumbusLocalMusic.com can create it.
We just want to play match maker. We want to introduce you to your next favorite band; to that tune you just can't get out of your head; to your summer road trip album. We whole-heartedly believe you will find these in your local music scene, and we're going to help you in the discovery.
That’s it. It really couldn’t be simpler than that.
Absolutely. Especially if you're a locally based business, we'd love to work with you. Please contact us and we'll discuss what options are available.
Nope, we don’t do social networking. We’re here to help you find the best music in Columbus, if you want to talk to them you should go see a show!
We hope so. If not, we encourage you to find bands you like and tag them with these uber-hipster bands. That way other hipsters will be able to find music they like due to your generosity.
Spammers ruin the fun for everyone. We rely on user input to figure out our suggestions. If people were allowed to spam tags then they could significantly influence our suggestion results. We’re trying to avoid that.
In order to tell us all your musical preferences you’ll need to create an account. You’ll also need to create an account to tag bands, so you should do that.
There are no friends for you here; we’re not a social network. If you want friends go to Facebook, or better yet http://www.cbusr.com
First, create an account. At the end of the account creation process it will ask you if you're in a band, click "Yes" and fill out the band information, upload your music, set your profile photo and you're all set!
Nope, you just give us permission to let people listen to it.
What song we select next is based entirely on user input. There are a couple of steps you can take that will help. First, make sure you select relevant genres for your band listing. Secondly, tag your band with similar sounding artists and invite all your fans to create an account to tag your band as well. Beyond that it's out of your hands and out of ours and it's entirely up to our listeners. Good luck!
After you have added your band, from the Band Management page click on the "Edit/Update This Band" dropdown and select "Manage Photos". Updload a photo and after the photo uploads click on "Make profile image". Crop the image so it looks pretty and then click "Set as profile pic". Voila!
Not yet, we might add the feature in the future...
Absolutely, and we encourage you to do so. Tag your own band then tell all your fans and friends to create an account and tag you with who they think you sound like
Sure, just select "Enter Venue Information" and enter the venue's info manually
You can’t officially add them to an event since the band has to have an account for us to add the show to their schedule; we would encourage you to list all the bands in the event description though.
All those sites provide valuable tools for bands and musicians. We provide a different service; we introduce your music to new fans. Asking why you should sign up for columbuslocalmusic.com is equivalent to asking "why would I want to have my music played on the radio?" People can find your music with little to no effort on your part. How much better can it get?
Yes, just not with our site.
We don’t want to be the next Facebook; we’re a music discovery service. If you want to get in touch with a local band you should go see a show and talk to them. That would be more meaningful anyway!
